Valerie Virginia Robertson Joyner died on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at her residence in Surry with family members at her bedside. A celebration of life service will be held at noon Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 11150 Emmanuel Church Road, Smithfield. Viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, with a wake from 6 to 7 p.m. at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery.
