Chimney fire damages home

Firefighters responded to a chimney fire at a home in the 5700 block of Godwin Boulevard on Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 3:33 p.m., according to a city press release. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the chimney. The single occupant had escaped the home safely and reported he saw fire coming from the chimney, according to the release.

The fire extended into the attic and was marked under control about 3:50 p.m. The occupant was not displaced, and there were no injuries reported at the scene.

One lane of Godwin Boulevard was closed while crews worked the fire.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
