Suffolk impresses at Invitational

All three Suffolk public schools competed in the Southeastern Invitational at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton last weekend.

Schools from all over the state came to compete, and attendees were treated to a lot of good individual performances from Suffolk athletes over the weekend.

Nansemond River High School had five first-place finishes as a team. For Team WAR, Tre’Breh Scott-McKoy finished first in her heat in the 300-meter dash with a time of 40.21. Skylar Parks finished first in her heat in the same event with a time of 44.41. Kori Carter finished second in the 500-meter dash in her heat with a time of 1:19.92 and finished first in the long jump with an 18-2. The 4×400 relay team finished first.

On the boys’ side, their 4×400 relay team finished first as well. Jevon Waller took third in his heat in the 55-meter dash.

For the Bulldogs, Nasir Davis finished fourth in his heat in the 55-meter dash. Bryan Walker finished third in his heat in the triple jump.

Lakeland High School had some noteworthy performances as well. Mya Alston finished third in her heat in the 300-meter dash. Nicolas Horton finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run. Lakeland’s boys’ 4×800 team placed first.

All three teams will compete in the Southeastern District meet on Thursday at Boo Williams, weather permitting.
