Suffolk saw its second snowfall in less than two weeks on Wednesday, with snow starting to fall across the city at about 2 p.m.

Although it wasn’t shaping up to be as big of a storm as Winter Storm Grayson on Jan. 3-4, Winter Storm Inga was expected to blanket the city with about 2 to 3 inches of snow by Thursday morning.

Suffolk city offices and facilities closed at 2 p.m. Wednesday, and the City Council work session and meeting set for Wednesday were canceled. The next meetings are scheduled for Feb. 7.

Suffolk students got a snow day Wednesday in anticipation of the weather. Suffolk Public Schools and Suffolk Christian Academy announced plans to be closed Thursday, but Nansemond-Suffolk Academy had not yet made an announcement at press time Wednesday.

Trash and recycling collections ran as scheduled, but Suffolk Transit ceased operations at 5:30 p.m. and was due to evaluate road conditions on Thursday morning to see when it would resume operations.

Public Works personnel began pre-treating primary and secondary roadways on Monday. Some roads were re-treated Wednesay. Suffolk Police Department advises motorists to drive slowly, allow extra distance between cars and allow for more time to get to your destination.

The snow may not stick around as long this time as it did after the winter storm of Jan. 3-4. The high on Thursday is expected to be about 39, with highs of 51 on Friday, 56 on Saturday and 61 on Sunday expected.
