Solid Suffolk performances at invitational

King’s Fork High School, Lakeland High School and Nansemond River High School turned in some notable performances in the Suffolk Invitational over the weekend.

Suffolk schools’ track and field teams had some good performances over the weekend as they hosted the Suffolk Invitational at Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton. The Team WAR girls finished second at the invitational, and the King’s Fork boys’ team finished seventh, but there were impressive individual performances that stood out as well.

Team WAR’s 4×55-meter team finished first, and the 4×200 and 4×400 teams finished third. Tea’ Foster finished fifth in her heat in the 500-meter dash. Asia Crocker and Lauryn Freeman finished third and sixth with times of 8.34 and 8.47, respectively, in the 55-meter hurdles. Tre’Breh Scott-McKoy and Crocker finished third and fifth, respectively, in the high jump. Crocker also finished third in the triple jump. For the boys’ team, Caleb McGirt and Christian Dubois finished first in their heats in the 300-meter dash.

For King’s Fork, Nasir Davis placed first in his prelim and final heat in the 55-meter dash. The 4×200 meter team finished third, and Shamond Smith finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run. Imani Urbanski placed fifth in the high jump for the girls.

For Lakeland, Deondre Little finished fourth in his heat in the 300-meter dash, and J’On Russell placed first in his heat. The 4×400 team placed third.

All Suffolk teams will next shift their focus to the indoor season postseason meets coming up this weekend and next.
