The Lady Saints soccer team has won its third game in a row after defeating Western Branch High School.
The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ soccer team went on the road to face Western Branch in a non-conference matchup. The team secured a 4-1 win, which was its fourth win of the season. NSA feels they are in a good place right now.
“We are coming together,” coach James Michael Dick said. “This thing is looking very, very good.”
NSA has come along nicely with the limited time they have had. With each athlete playing different sports, along with other things, the Lady Saints haven’t had as many full practices as they’d like. However, the chemistry has been able to build quickly, which has helped lead to some early success for the Lady Saints.
“We have had five very good games considering that we haven’t had a whole lot of full team practice time,” Dick said. “They are all playing well. Everything has turned out better than we have anticipated.”
Abby Herrod led the way for the Lady Saints Monday, as she scored two goals to add to her total of multiple games with more than one goal scored. Goalkeeper Mallory Mizelle has been playing well for NSA this season and had 14 saves against Western Branch. As a whole, the team has been communicating more on the field, and it has been useful. After losing 75 percent of the defensive line last year due to graduation, it has been even more critical for the team to communicate well this season.
NSA will face Bishop Sullivan Catholic on the road at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
