The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy lacrosse team defeated Trinity Episcopal at home 14-10 Tuesday afternoon.

The win put NSA at 5-5 on the season and snapped a two-game losing streak. Eli Dowd and Miles Birdsong led the team with four goals apiece.

“Trinity Episcopal is having a good season, so to earn a victory yesterday makes me very happy for our players,” Coach T.W Johnson said. “We had a tough week last week, and for the players to bounce back against a good team shows we have high-character people in our program.”

With a little more than a week left of regular season play, Johnson believes the team is still finding its way. Some injuries this season have forced NSA to switch up its lineup, but Johnson credits his players for not complaining when their roles changed to accommodate for injuries.

NSA has three big games left in the regular season, and Johnson believes his team is looking forward to them.

“This is the time of year that we need to start playing our best,” he said. “We have had moments of very good lacrosse, so we are very aware of what we are capable of. The nice thing about our schedule is we still have three important regular season games left. There is nothing better than playing in important games late in the season, and the team has put itself in position to play those games over the next few weeks.”

NSA will play North Cross School Saturday at Hampden-Sydney College. Next week, they will finish the regular season against Norfolk Christian School and Christchurch School. The Saints were also ranked No. 5 in the most recent Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II lacrosse poll.
