Metropolitan Baptist Church held its second annual May Day on April 29.
This was an event that was celebrated each year by elementary schools across the country. May Day is an ancient northern hemisphere spring festival and a traditional spring holiday in many cultures with dancing, singing, the wrapping of the Maypole and the crowing of a May Queen.
This year, Metropolitan celebrated with a May Day Queen and King. The Queen was A’yana Everett, a seventh-grade student at King’s Fork Middle School, and the King was Tyone Parker, a seventh-grade student at John F. Kennedy Middle School. The King and Queen were escorted by their parents, Terry Davis and Shanice Claud. There was also a visit from Mickey and Minnie Mouse, along with games and food. The event brought excitement and joy to young and old.
