Kids in Suffolk once again have the chance to get a free Slurpee from 7-Eleven if the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office catches them doing a good deed.

Sheriff’s deputies will be on Slurpee patrol this summer as a part of their participation in 7-Eleven’s “Operation Chill,” and they can “ticket” kids that they see doing good deeds in the community. The coupons are good anytime through the end of the year.

“We are rewarding kids for good behavior, and who doesn’t love a good Slurpee,” said community engagement coordinator Katie Jones.

The sheriff’s office will be passing them out while they are patrolling as well as inside the courthouse if kids are with their parents.

Operation Chill is in its 23rd year, and it includes more than 1,000 law enforcement agencies distributing nearly 21 million coupons over the course of the community program.

“This is designed as a summer program, because kids have a lot of kids have free time,” Jones said. “And this is going to reinforce their good behavior.”

Not only will this provide a free treat for the kids in Suffolk, but it helps to strengthen community relations between the sheriff’s office and the community.

“With the deputies on the road, this will strengthen relationships within the community,” Jones said. “It’s business for the deputies on the road, but it also shows a personal side to them. The deputies can be cool, too.”

The department has roughly 500 coupons to pass out to the community, and they will pass them out until they are all gone.
