Team WAR is headed to North Carolina for outdoor nationals.
For the last meet of the season, Nansemond River High School track and field team will try to carry out its success through nationals. The last few years, Nansemond River has always had a number of All-Americans at nationals and is hoping to continue that this year.
In the indoor season they earned two national titles in the boys’ 4×200 and the mixed relay event. They are hoping to bring home more individual event national titles during the outdoor season. Coach Justin Byron paces his season to allow the team to peak at state championship and national events.
“We want to go out there and give it all we got and make sure we continue to represent our school and area the right way,” Byron said.
The girls’ team is coming off of another Class 5 outdoor state championship and a number of state titles combined with the girls’ and boys’ teams. Nationals start Friday and last through the weekend.
