Nansemond-Suffolk Academy boys’ basketball coach Larry Ward will host a basketball camp at NSA July 9-13
The camp will welcome boys and girls ages 5 to 15. The camp will be a half-day for the 5- to 7-year-old age group, from 9 a.m. to noon with 7-foot baskets being used. The full days for the 7- to 15-year-old group will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Snacks will be provided for the half-day camp participants, and lunch will be provided for the full-day participants. There will also be a T-shirt and basketball included.
The half-day camp will cost $165, and the full-day camp will cost $230.
During the full day, camp participants will get a chance to play 17 games throughout the week and be able to get great instructions from current players on the NSA basketball team.
“We’ll have games each day and camp champs each day and skill development each day,” Ward said. “On that Friday, we will have championship Friday, where the parents come out and watch the kids play and compete. It is a lot of fun.”
Ward has been doing camps for more than 25 years and has usually hosted camps in Virginia Beach and in North Carolina, but this will be his first one in Suffolk.
“The kids always have a good time, and it’s a fun time being around them,” Ward said. “We want to help these young players understand the game.”
Ward coached his first season at NSA last winter and helped lead the team to a state tournament appearance. Previously, he had spent time coaching Cape Henry Collegiate.
