Charlie Edward Yates

Mr. Charlie Edward Yates, born Nov. 3, 1937, in Whaleyville Borough of Suffolk, to the late Georgia V. Mills-Yates and the late Charlie T. Yates, passed away at 80 years of age on June 28, 2018.

He graduated from East Suffolk High School in 1956 and went on to pursue a career as a barber, graduating from Tyler Barber College of New York in 1966. He returned to his hometown to be near his ailing mother where he opened another shop at his residence, retiring in 2017.

He was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church and a member of NAACP and voter registration.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Princess Adena Goins, of New York; sister, Dorothy Mae Yates-Dillard, of Suffolk; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; brother-in-law, James Walker, of Philadelphia; sister-in-law, Janie Yates; a host of other relatives and friends.

The family invites you to make donations in Charlie Yates’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association and to Mineral Springs Baptist Church.

A celebration of life will be held noon, Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Mineral Springs Baptist Church, 4849 Mineral Spring Road. The Rev. Alan Ray Hunt will deliver the message of comfort. He will be laid to rest in Langston Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
