Woman’s Club honors teens, installs officers

The Woman’s Club of Suffolk recently presented scholarships and installed its officers for the upcoming year.

The annual Scholarship Luncheon took place at the Stillwaterhouse Tea Room on Prentis Street in Suffolk.

The Home Life Department presented a $250 award to Autumn Thompson, who will be doing mission work in Quagadougou, Burkina Faso, from September to December. She is the daughter of Jason and Evelyn Thompson.

The Woman’s Club Scholarship of $1,000 was presented to Holly Ellis. She is the daughter of Michael and Janice Ellis and will be attending Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall, majoring in graphic design.

Both Thompson and Ellis are 2018 graduates of Lakeland High School.

At the May meeting of the Woman’s Club of Suffolk, also held at the Stillwaterhouse Tea Room, officers were installed for the coming term by outgoing president Debra Carr.

The officers that will lead for the next two years are Shirley Forehand, treasurer; Carolyn Bunch, secretary; Teresa Thompson, first vice president; Robin Gray, second vice president; and Melva West, president.
