Suffolk native Jean-Claude Bile’ had the opportunity to travel to Orlando, Fla., last week to compete in the International Champions Cup Futures.
Bile’ was chosen to the ICC Virginia All-Stars soccer team. He was one of 60 finalists selected throughout the state.
The ICC Futures featured more than 24 teams from the United States and Europe, composed of the top U14 players in the world. It included eight teams from Major League Soccer’s Development Academy, eight All-Star teams from various states and eight European academy teams associated with leading professional soccer clubs.
The teams battled each other over the course of a week in a bracketed tournament. All of the matches were held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando.
Bile’ and the ICC Virginia All-Stars competed in the Plate Bracket during the week-long tournament.
They advanced to the championship match, defeating the Houston Dynamo and the ICC All-Stars California along the way. The Virginia team took home the championship, defeating the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1.
The Suffolk native found his groove by the second match, netting a single goal in the semi-final and scoring both goals in the championship match. The whole experience is something neither Bile’ nor his father will ever forget. Michel Bile’, King’s Fork High School boys’ soccer coach, was more than proud of his son.
“It was an unbelievable experience,” Coach Bile’ said. “Going down to Orlando and playing against that type of competition helped build his confidence up. He was able to get exposed to different styles of play.”
“It was a fun experience, and I got to play against some good players,” Jean-Claude said. “I got a chance to play against different countries. We got to play against some MLS Academy teams. Some of the teams moved off the ball and connected really well. I feel like I got better as a player.”
Bile’ is a rising ninth-grader at King’s Fork and will be looking to play varsity next year under his father. Growing up playing soccer, he competed in the Suffolk Youth Athletic Association until he was 13. From there, he transitioned to playing for the club team Beach FC U14. Bile’s opportunity shows how kids from SYAA are progressing towards new opportunities on the world’s biggest stages.
Bile’ is currently getting ready for the upcoming football season. He will be the new kicker for the Bulldogs.
“I’m looking forward to making some good plays and helping my team win when they need me,” Jean-Claude said.
