Published 6:32 pm Thursday, August 9, 2018
Beginning Friday evening, a portion of northbound lanes on North Main Street will be closed for water main repairs.
Suffolk’s Public Utilities Department will be replacing a service line from the city’s water main. The water main is located in the middle of the northbound lanes in the 200 block of North Main Street.
The work and traffic detour will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 and will remain in effect until the replacement is completed. The sidewalk near the work site will also be closed while repairs are being made.
The northbound traffic would take drivers from Bank Street to Pinner Street to Finney Avenue before coming back to North Main Street.
The southbound area of North Main Street will not be affected.
Along with street closures, water service will be interrupted for the duration of the repairs. The area on Main Street from Market Street to the railroad tracks will have their water service interrupted from 9 p.m. Aug. 10 to 12 p.m. Aug. 11.
Impacted residents were notified via delivered door hangers.
