Lady Warriors field hockey goalie Emily Binley will be protecting the goal at Concordia University Wisconsin next year.

Binley has committed to Concordia University Wisconsin. There, she has plans to play goalie and is excited about the opportunity to play field hockey at the next level.

Binley’s recruiting process came together after talking with her coaches for her club team, who mentioned CUW. Wisconsin is a familiar place to Binley, as she grew up in Stevens Point, Wisc. Even though Wisconsin sounds far from Suffolk, the Lady Warrior definitely has familiar territory up there.

“I attended school up there until I was in fourth grade,” she said. “My dad received orders for the Navy, and we moved out east. I found it really intriguing to have the chance to go to school at CUW. When I attended my visit, I loved the campus. The coaches and players welcomed me in, and it felt at home.”

Binley also liked the athletic training program that CUW offered. She has plans to pursue a degree in that. When she left the campus after her visit, she and her mom talked about committing, and at the point she felt comfortable enough to commit there. Her family has been very supportive of her decision. Christopher Newport University and Randolph-Macon College were close runner-ups.

“They wanted me to choose somewhere I fell in love with and that I could imagine myself being at,” she said. “My goalie coach, Raymond Brown, has also been an inspiration to me. He has taught me everything I know, and I am still working to perfect the little things with him every day.”

With this being her senior season with NRHS, she wants to make sure it’s a memorable one. She wants to continue to help the team grow stronger. She wants to be a leader to the younger girls on the team and hopefully accomplish a state championship. Personally, she hopes to have as many shutout games as possible for Nansemond River this season.
