Car show back on

The Holland Ruritan Car Show gets a second chance this weekend after being canceled due to rain earlier this year, and the Holland Ruritan Club anticipates a large showing.
“We are expecting cars from all over. We have advertised for several months since it was rained out in May,” said Ruritan member Curtis Johnson. “We were very fortunate to have support form Suffolk Tourism. We also passed out fliers from Hampton to Franklin, so we do expect a good turnout and a lot of cars.”
Registration is open the day of the event from 8 to 11 a.m., and registration for the show is $25. Those that register their vehicles have the chance to win one of 35 different trophies, and they are entered to win a number of door prizes.
Registered car owners also receive a ticket for free food and drinks, but there will be food and drinks on sale for spectators as well. Spectators get in free.
Unlike other car shows, the Holland Car Show doesn’t have any restriction on the year, make or models of the vehicles.
“They can bring a 50-year-old car or a car that is fairly new,” Johnson said. “We allowed people to come and have a good time and bring whatever type of car they want.”
All the money raised from the event will be used to support community projects that the Ruritan Club is involved in.
“Everything we make goes back to the community,” Johnson said.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be held at the baseball field in Holland.
