Lady Bulldogs ready for postseason

With the regular season over, the Lady Bulldogs are gearing up to make a run in the playoffs.
Last week, the King’s Fork High School field hockey team closed out the regular season with a shutout win. This week, they have been practicing as they await their opponent for the Class 4 Region A playoffs. King’s Fork finished the season with some momentum, finishing 7-8, and they are hoping it can carry over into the playoffs.
“I am really excited about where the team is,” Coach Ashley Skinner said. “We have a chance to host some games in the playoffs, which is great. We feel good about the opportunity to possibly match up with some teams in our district again.”
The Lady Bulldogs are excited and feel more motivated than they have ever been at this point in the season. Last season, the Bulldogs lost in the first round. However, they feel more comfortable in the second season under Skinner’s direction. The heavy senior leadership has helped this season, but underclassmen have also stepped up in their roles and have contributed all season for King’s Fork.
“The season has provided strong leadership,” Skinner said. “There are also players who have stepped up into roles, and I have watched them progress in those roles during the season. So for years to come, I feel good about the younger players who are stepping up right now.”
Regardless of the opponent, Skinner feels the team’s communication is going to be the biggest thing. Also, the Lady Bulldogs want to play their game and not get caught up in playing how their opponent is playing.
“It could be easy to get off track when you are facing a high-level team,” Skinner said. “It is going to be important for us to play our game and communicate with one another.”
The team is excited about the position it is in. The players want to finish out the season as strong as possible. Skinner has talked about how confident the team is at the moment, and she hopes that the team sees in themselves what she sees in them. They have a chance to make it further than any field hockey team in the school’s history.
“We are feeling extremely optimistic,” senior Isabella Gay said. “We are confident in our ability to win next weekend. “We have worked on some things and added some new things we think will help us. I’m happy in my last season I get a chance to do something special with these ladies.”
