Mills Thomas Barlow Jr.

Mills Thomas “Tommy” Barlow Jr., died suddenly on May 7, 2018, in Grand Junction, Colo., at the home of his daughter. He was 66 and had been in poor health.

A native of Suffolk (Nansemond County), Tommy was the son of the late Mills Thomas Barlow, a native of Smithfield, and Annie Lindner Barlow, a native of Bavaria, Germany.

Tommy is survived by his daughter, Audra Nicole Nelson, and her husband, John; and his sons, Clinton Barlow and Kurtis Barlow, of Grand Junction, Colo.; his grandchildren, Jackson Nelson and Lorali Nelson; his sister, Susan Barlow Gatling and her husband, Bob, of Penn Laird; and his brother, Robert Gregory “Greg” Barlow and his sons, Robert Gregory Barlow Jr. and Cody Thomas Barlow, all of Windsor.

Upon graduation from Forest Glen High School in 1970, Tommy briefly attended Old Dominion University, before joining the Merchant Marines, where he proudly served as a mariner for more than 20 years.

A graveside service will be held at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Suffolk, in 2019, date to be announced later; a memorial celebration for family and friends will be held immediately afterwards.
