The No. 6 King’s Fork High School football team advanced to the second round of the Class 4A playoffs with an 18-7 win, upsetting No. 3-seeded Deep Creek Friday night.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Bulldogs. They also avenged a loss to this same Deep Creek group two weeks ago. This is the second year the Bulldogs have made the regional playoffs.

“We knew how good we could be and how talented we are,” Coach Scottie Littles said. “We just hadn’t been playing good football. The kids played well out there.”

In the first half, the momentum seemed to be on Deep Creek’s side, but the Bulldogs were still within arm’s reach. In the first quarter, the Hornets took a 7-0 lead.

The Hornets and the Bulldogs caused turnover after turnover, but a late second-quarter field goal put the Bulldogs on the board before halftime.

It was all second-half action for King’s Fork in their win. King’s Fork got its first touchdown of the game in the third quarter with 9:16 to play. A connection from Marc Dyer to Bobby Boone set Korey Foster to score a goal-line touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 9-7 lead. Later in the third quarter, a nine-yard run by Foster pushed the Bulldogs’ lead to 15-7.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs had a drive in which they were able to run down the clock. The drive ended with a field goal to extend the lead to 18-7 for the Bulldogs.

Deep Creek had to score twice to win, and their team was unable to get back on the board.

“At the end of the day, nothing matters when you go into the postseason,” Littles said. “You just have to be better than your opponent one time. It’s not the first playoff victory we have had, so the kids know what it feels like. Now it’s on to the next one.”
