Organizations will be serving the Suffolk community before the holiday to ensure everyone can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.

LW’s Lawn Service and MWM Investments will have their annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, and Suffolk United, a new organization, will be giving out Thanksgiving meals.

This will be Suffolk United’s first Thanksgiving event and its first overall event for the community.

“We have 25 churches that will be a part of this, and we are giving away uncooked food,” said Suffolk United representative and pastor at Balm Church, Bishop A.S. Hall Sr. “This year we are looking to serve 500 families.”

The first-come, first-served event will be giving families turkeys and all the fixings for a full Thanksgiving meal. Some of the food includes green beans, sweet potatoes, corn, white potatoes, collard greens, stuffing gravy, sweet peas, cake mix and a few other things.

“We just think everyone should have a great Thanksgiving,” Hall said. “Suffolk United is the new church feeding program, especially for Thanksgiving, and we are looking to do more throughout the year.”

Hall and the other churches involved believe that the community deserves a great Thanksgiving meal.

“Our passion is the people, and we just love helping and serving the community,” Hall said. “It shows our love for God when we show our love for His people.”

Suffolk United will hold its event at the Balm Church East Campus, 523 E. Washington St., from 9 to 11 a.m. this Saturday.

The event is open to anyone in the community who needs a meal this Thanksgiving, and it is first-come, first-served.

LW’s Lawn Service and MWM Investments and Property Management also will be hosting its 15th annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway this Saturday. Vouchers were distributed for the giveaway prior to the event, and those holding vouchers can receive their turkey and trimmings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The organization will give out anything that is left to individuals without vouchers after 1 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.
