New eatery opens downtown

A new downtown sandwich spot held its grand opening on Wednesday.
Kenny’s Bistro, at 137 W. Washington St., cut a ribbon in front of its door with the owners, employees, family and friends and city officials participating.
“I’m glad everybody came,” said Kenneth Jenkins, who owns the restaurant with his wife, Yvette Jenkins.
The restaurant has been open since October and serves a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads and entrees like baked chicken, barbecue, pork rib tips and beef tips. It also carries regional favorites like gizzards and chitterlings.
Jenkins has a long history in the construction business. He worked in concrete for 15 years, but he was recently looking for a change.
“I wanted to get out of the construction business, and I’ve always loved to cook,” he said. “Lord willing, we’ll prosper in this business like I did in construction.”
Dozens were present at Wednesday’s ribbon-cutting to welcome the eatery into downtown.
“We want to welcome you downtown,” Vice Mayor Leroy Bennett said before the ribbon was snipped. “I’m excited for you. Every time we see a business open downtown, that means we will have some jobs and some tax dollars.”
