Carlo Cecchini was selected to the boys’ volleyball Southeastern District second team.

Cecchini was the only Suffolk athlete to make either of the boys’ all-district teams. Cecchini had an incredible junior season, helping King’s Fork High School advance to the playoffs and win at least one playoff game this year. Earlier this season, Bulldogs Coach Angie Gatling described him as the heart and soul of the team.

“He is the glue to our team,” Gatling said. “He leads in a powerful way. Any coach would be proud to have him on their team.”

Cecchini also felt good about his junior year but said making all-district wasn’t the ultimate goal of this season.

“I’m really proud I was able to make the all-district team,” he said. “It has always been in the back of my mind a little bit, but it wasn’t always a focus I was working on for the season.”

The Bulldogs were able to take the city title this year on the strength of the strong play of Cecchini and his teammates. They built some serious momentum heading into playoff time in mid-October. His teammate and senior Jordan Robinson was also an honorable mention for the Bulldogs.

“I felt like everyone learned a lot this season,” Cecchini said. “The amount of growth from when we started in August to when we ended in October amazed me. I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish next year.”

Nansemond River High School had one honorable mention in Benjamin Weichert. Lakeland High School also had an honorable mention in Tyler Spencer. Lakeland didn’t have much team success this season, but Spencer was a bright spot for them.
