Late plays help Saints to a win

Late plays by Jaden Freeman and George Pettaway gave the Saints boys’ basketball team its second win for the season last Saturday.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy hosted First Colonial High School. NSA took a 60-57 win after making some game-changing plays down the stretch.

NSA got off to a rough start going down 23-9 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Saints played much better, outscoring FC 19-10; however, they went into halftime down 33-28. Saints continued their momentum in the third quarter as both teams continued to go back forth setting up a fourth-quarter showdown. A four-point play by Jaden Freeman gave NSA a one-point lead with 30 seconds left in the fourth. George Pettaway hit two late free throws to extend the lead to three.

Freeman finished the game with 24 points. Pettaway finished with nine points and eight assists. Kaleb Brown pitched in nine as well.

The Saints will play again on the road Friday in the Virginia Episcopal School tournament.
