Eight Warriors selected All-Region

The Nansemond River High school football team had eight players selected to the Class 5 Region A teams.
Nansemond River football team had a strong 2018 season. They finished the season with an 8-4 record, which included a trip to the regional semifinals. It was the first year for Coach Justin Conyers, and the players were able to respond well under his leadership.
The Warriors finished the regular season with an impressive 7-3 record in the tough Southeastern District. They hosted Kecoughtan High School in a home playoff game and shut them out, leading them to a rematch with Indian River High School. Nansemond River was able to hold the Braves to their lowest total of the season but fell short.
Nansemond River had five first-team selections, with Kevin Johnson selected as a running back and Datron Branch selected at offensive lineman. Keonte’ Cobb was selected at defensive end and JaQuelle Harrell at linebacker. Rashaad Williams was a specialist at kick returner.
Three Warriors were selected second-team All-Region. Payton Payne and Joeziah Autrey were selections on the defensive line. Johnson was selected to the second team at defensive back, and Quijoun Gordon was selected as an All-Purpose defensive player.
Collectively as a team, the Warriors finished with the best record of all the Suffolk schools. They led Suffolk Public Schools in All-District selections with eight. The Warriors have some strong candidates for the All-State teams as well.
