Jo Ann Hill Evans, devoted, daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully Dec. 8, 2018, with her family by her side. She was born Oct. 16, 1935, in Hertford, N.C., and was raised in Elizabeth City, N.C. Jo Ann was an active member of Magnolia United Methodist Church and the Savage Bible Class. She served on various church committees and was a member of the Prime Time Singers. She was a past member of Suffolk Cosmopolitan Pals Club and Garden Gate Garden Club. She worked at Planters Nut & Chocolate Co. during her early days in Suffolk, and retired from the Suffolk Health Department after 30 years of service.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Roy W. Evans; and her father and mother, Joe E. and Hazel Hill. She is survived by one son, W.J. Clark Evans and wife, Ellen, of Midlothian; two grandchildren, William J.C. Evans II, of Midlothian, and Lauren E. Evans, of Fairfax.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 2018, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at Magnolia United Methodist Church, 1764 Wilroy Road, Suffolk, VA 23434; a reception will follow. Burial will be private.
