Councilman denies harassment allegation

A Suffolk councilman has been accused of sexual harassment on a business trip to Florida earlier this month.
City spokeswoman Diana Klink would not confirm the identity of the councilman. Longtime councilman and former mayor, Curtis Milteer, confirmed by phone on Wednesday afternoon that the complaint was about him, but he denied the allegations.
According to Milteer, he and other city officials traveled to Miami, Fla., for a conference on behalf of the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority earlier this month.
The councilman says that a woman on the trip accused him of calling her hotel room and sexually harassing her.
“The information is incorrect. I didn’t know anything about the situation until I got back,” said Milteer, who is in his late 80s.
Milteer, who has represented the Whaleyville Borough for nearly 39 years, said he is unsure why someone would accuse him of sexual harassment.
“That’s something I would like to know,” Milteer said. “I made no phone call whatsoever.”
Milteer named his accuser to the Suffolk News-Herald, but the woman did not return a Facebook message on Wednesday evening.
In response to a request for any public documents related to the complaint, Klink stated there was no document to provide. She did not respond to questions about what the process will be for any investigation of the complaint.
