Suffolk will not be investigating sexual harassment allegations against Councilman Curtis Milteer.
According to city spokeswoman Diana Klink, there will be no investigation into the allegation because council members are elected officials and not city employees.
“Neither city staff nor Council members, individually or as a body, have authority to address an allegation of this nature that does not involve a city employee or a city sponsored event,” Klink stated in an email.
According to Milteer, he and other officials traveled to Miami, Fla., for a conference on behalf of the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority earlier this month. The councilman says that a woman on the trip accused him of calling her hotel room and sexually harassing her.
Milteer has denied the allegations.
Milteer was not present at Tuesday’s meeting of the Suffolk Redevelopment Housing Authority, despite being the liaison for the last two years. Vice Mayor Leroy Bennett was present at the meeting.
The accuser declined to comment on the complaint this week.
