We don’t know anything else to say but “thank you.”
Thanks to many donors from across the city, the Suffolk Cheer Fund concluded its 2018-2019 fundraising season by shattering its goal.
The goal this year was $40,000. But donations ranging from $10 to $4,000 came in from individuals, businesses, groups, community foundations and more to boost the fund far past what we could have dreamed.
That money helped about 2,573 children find toys under the tree when they woke up on Christmas morning.
If our gratefulness doesn’t seem like quite enough, just imagine the joy they must have felt when they realized that they weren’t forgotten on one of the most special days of the year. Then multiply that by 2,573. That’s quite a lot of cheer you and your fellow donors helped bring this year.
If you didn’t get a chance to give in all of the hustle and bustle — or you want to increase your donation, or unload part of your tax refund — donations to the Cheer Fund are accepted year-round. Your donation at this time will be a great start to the 2019-2020 fundraising season.
To donate to the Cheer Fund, send a check to P.O. Box 1220, Suffolk, VA 23439, or bring it to the newspaper office, 130 S. Saratoga St., from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We will list your donation in the newspaper, but it can be marked “anonymous” if you like. Donations may be made in honor of or in memory of someone. If you bring the check to our office, we’ll take your photo as you hand it to one of our staff.
