Participate in survey

Suffolk Transit is conducting a public survey related to its Transit Development Plan, which could serve as a road map for future improvements to the service.

It’s been a little over seven years since Suffolk dropped Hampton Roads Transit like a hot potato. That year, in an era of wide-ranging cost cuts and austerity measures on the city level, HRT proposed a huge hike in the service fee while cutting half of the routes in ran in Suffolk at the time. City Council dismissed HRT in no uncertain terms and said the city would find its own solution.

Based on reporting last week from the Daily Press, cities still involved in HRT are undergoing yet another round of sticker shock, as HRT is once again proposing to cut routes while charging cities more.

Switching from HRT to Suffolk Transit seven years ago took some adjusting, but it’s a pretty safe bet that Suffolk officials aren’t regretting that decision.

But Suffolk Transit can always be made better, and the current survey and Transit Development Plan are a step in that direction.

If you’re a rider of Suffolk Transit and want to see changes to the service or acknowledge the parts of the system that work well, make sure to participate in the survey.

If you’re someone who would like to use Suffolk Transit but have been unable to for some reason, make sure you participate, too.

The survey is available at www.surveymonkey.com/r/Y9SNNDV. Paper copies are also available on the buses and at Suffolk Public Library locations.
