Lakeland High School picked up a win on the road last Friday night to move to 14-7.

The Cavs boys’ basketball team won their last road game of the regular season, taking down Indian River High School 73-33 in a big win. It was a statement win for Lakeland many ways. The Braves took the first meeting against Lakeland on the Cavs’ home floor, so Lakeland was able to respond while continuing to solidify its playoff positioning in the Class 3A region.

Clint Wright Jr. led all scorers with 14 points. Defensively, the Cavs didn’t allow one Indian River player to score more than five points in their 40-point win. Lakeland will now get ready for their final game of the regular season with a meeting with King’s Fork High School again. Lakeland has won the last two meetings between the two teams this season. Both teams met in the semifinals of the King’s Fork holiday tournament, resulting in Lakeland advancing in the championship. The next time the two teams met was in early January, with Lakeland taking that game at King’s Fork as well.

Lakeland gets to host for the final game, and it will serve as some momentum for the Cavs as they head into the playoffs. For both teams, the game will be like a playoff atmosphere, as both teams prep for what is likely to be a strong postseason journey. King’s Fork will be at Lakeland at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
