Almeta Alcelia Daughtrey

Almeta Alcelia Daughtrey, 79, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, went home to be with her savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Almeta, affectionately known as “Sis,” was born on Oct. 11, 1939, in Nansemond County, to the late Margaret Langston Brown and James T. Daughtrey.

She created a legacy of love during her lifetime. Left to cherish her beautiful memories are her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Karl S. and Betty J. Daughtrey; two granddaughters, Tyechia Parker (LaTreal) and Tiffany Daughtrey; two great-grandchildren, LaTreal Jr. and Koi Parker; brother, James Thomas Daughtrey (Judy); niece, Monique Barnes; nephew, Kyle Christmas; and a host of cousins, to include Horace Barnes, Vivian Barnes, Beulah Barnes Wright and family, Sharon Wallace Shelton and family, and Harold Wallace and family. She also leaves many lifelong friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at Rising St. James PHC Church, 201 N. Sixth St., Suffolk. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at Crocker Funeral Home, 900 E. Washington St., Suffolk. The interment will be held at Carver Memorial Cemetery immediately following the service. Cards and expressions of love can be mailed to 22 Pine Cone Drive, Hampton, VA 23669.
