The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ basketball team had two players recognized for All-Conference honors, as well as the Coach of the Year.

Alivia Giles and Cammy Reid were both selected to Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools All-Conference teams. Giles and Reid were both first-team selections.

“I’ve put in a lot of work since day one,” Giles said. “It feels good to be noticed. It’s definitely great to see me and my teammates get recognized. The support from them, coaches and family are one of the main reasons I was able to achieve this.”

Coach Kim Aston was selected TCIS Coach of the Year. Aston took a young Lady Saints team with no seniors on it to a successful season within the conference and also a top-six seed within the state. Aston was appreciative of the award but gave all the credit to the players and their ability to get better throughout the season.

“It’s a really good group of kids and a really unselfish group of kids,” Aston said. “I think we have a time with a lot of ambition to be good. With us being young, we can truly play with nothing to lose knowing the number of years we have ahead of us with this team coming back. It’s a really nice honor to get coach of the year, but it’s because those kids stepped up throughout the year.”

The Lady Saints ended up advancing to the TCIS semifinals before reaching the state tournament.
