NSA takes down VES

The Lady Saints girls’ basketball team defeated Virginia Episcopal School on Tuesday for the second time this season.

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ basketball team advanced to the second round of the state tournament after defeating VES. NSA took a 43-30 win.

It was a tale of starting strong and finishing strong for the Lady Saints. In the last meeting, NSA almost had a 20-point win. It was expected the intensity was going to be higher for the playoff matchup.

NSA got off to a 13-4 lead after one quarter of play. VES worked its way back into the game in the second quarter, outscoring NSA 8-5. The Lady Saints picked up a little bit more momentum in the third quarter but only outscored VES by one point. In the fourth quarter, NSA put up 16 to secure their victory and move on to the second round of the state tournament.

Alivia Giles went for 20 points and eight rebounds, shooting 62 percent from the field. Cammy Reid had 15 points to go along with eight rebounds. NSA allowed only one player to score in double figures. For the second year in a row, NSA was able to advance in the second round of the state tournament.
