Susan C. Gilchrist

Susan C. Gilchrist, “lovingly known as Ms. Top” was born on April 14, 1924, in Edgefield, S.C., to the late Henry and Lucille Curry.

Susan leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Squire Shedrick (Anita—preceded in death), of Salters, S.C., John Gilchrist (Dorian), of Washington, D.C., Samuel Gilchrist, of Baltimore, Md., Donald Gilchrist (Angelia), of Suffolk; and four daughters, Mary Knight (Walter), of Suffolk, Barbara Ann Massenburg, of Suffolk, Alice Mae Cobb (Wayne), of Suffolk, Linda Massenburg (Rob—preceded in death). Her daughter, Lucille Gilchrist, preceded her in death. A combined total of more than 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren will also cherish her memory, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at noon, Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Pleasant Union Baptist Church, 215 Webb St., Suffolk. She will be laid to rest in Holly Lawn Cemetery, 1525 N. Main St., Suffolk. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
