Suffolk man charged with murder

A Suffolk man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Tuesday’s fatal downtown shooting.

Marquay Antonio White, 24, was arrested Friday afternoon, according to a city press release.
The shooting killed Leondrae Shaqil Johnson, 25, of Suffolk. A second victim, Antonio Lamon Jefferson Jr., 23, of Suffolk, remains hospitalized, the news release stated.
The shooting happened at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday at the Happy Shopper in the 600 block of East Washington Street.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further charges against White are expected, the news release stated. He is being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
