Pittman, Gregory combine for shutout

The Nansemond River High School baseball team won a pitching bout in a 1-0 win over Western Branch High School Tuesday evening.
Caleb Pittman and Gavin Gregory combined to pitch a shutout. Pittman pitched the first seven innings, striking out 12 and allowing two hits. Gregory pitched the eighth inning, striking out one, and got the win on the mound.
Western Branch got a combined 15 strikeouts from its pitchers Tuesday. Chris Mitchell scored the only run of the game after a single from Bryson Dansberry. Mitchell and Dansberry had the only two hits for the Warriors.
The Warriors grabbed a solid win over a Western Branch team that was in the state championship game the last two seasons at the Class 6 level, winning one and falling in one.
