UPDATE: The date for this year’s Suffolk Peanut Fest Mud Jam and Classic Auto Cruise-In was changed to April 20. This article has been updated with the correct date.

Families will enjoy big trucks, roaring engines and mud-slinging good fun at the fourth annual Suffolk Peanut Fest Mud Jam on April 20, along with the second annual Classic Auto Cruise-In. The Mud Jam will be held by Suffolk Festivals Inc. and Big Daddy Motorsports at Suffolk Executive Airport off Carolina Road.

Gates will open at 10 a.m. for visitors to check out concessions, merchandise and the Classic Auto Cruise-In before competitions take place from 1 to 6 p.m. An open “pit party” will be held in the competition arena before 1 p.m. for attendees to meet the drivers and take a closer look at their trucks.

There will be five different weight classes for trucks, ranging from street class to unlimited class. Drivers will test their vehicles in timed jump courses, a “Tuff Truck” challenge through an obstacle course and a freestyle session for more topsy-turvy truck driving.

“It’s good, clean family fun,” Tiny Andrews of Suffolk Festivals Inc. said in a phone interview. “Bring the kids out, meet the drivers (and) have your pictures taken with the trucks.”

Children are welcome to help kick off this year’s Mud Jam with a Power Wheels competition, according to Suffolk Peanut Festival Director Lisa Key.

“The kids can show up with their Power Wheels and have a little fun before the Mud Jam,” Key said in a phone interview.

The Classic Car Cruise-In will be held more than 100 yards away at the site to keep everyone’s prized vehicles in good condition, according to organizer Thomas Moore. The show is for pre-1975 cars only, with replicas also permitted.

Each driver will receive free admission to the Mud Jam along with one passenger.

“We have a nice paved area, so bring a chair and a friend and enjoy these really cool cars,” Moore said in an email.

Admission will be $15 at the gate, and kids ages 6 and younger will get in for free. Only cash will be accepted. Call 539-6751 and visit suffolkpeanutfest.com for more information.
