Springtime in Suffolk — much like autumn in Suffolk — always brings a bevy of events to entertain the public.

This weekend will be among the busiest spring weekends this year, assuming the weather holds off and graces us with some rain-free skies. Some events are for family fun, some support specific organizations and some encourage physical fitness. They all encourage getting out and getting to know others in your community, and we hope you will be able to head out to some of the below events this Saturday.

  • The Epsilon Theta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. will hold its annual FabulouZly Fit & Finer 5K Walk and Run at the Seaboard Coastline Trailhead in Driver. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the walk and run at 9 a.m. Awards will be given to the top finishers of the 5K. Call 869-3715.
  • Keep Suffolk Beautiful will host a recycling drive and tire amnesty day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lowe’s parking lot, 1216 N. Main St. This drive will include the disposal of household hazardous waste, tires that are 22 inches or less in diameter and without rims, compact fluorescent lamp bulbs, batteries, plastic bags, electronics, gently used clothing, document shredding and more. This recycling drive is for Suffolk residents only, and identification is required for household hazardous waste and tires. Call Suffolk Public Works Litter Control at 514-7604 or email littercontrol@suffolkva.us.
  • Suffolk Parks and Recreation will hold its annual spring “Eggstravaganza” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bennett’s Creek Park, 3000 Bennetts Creek Park Road. This free event will include games, pony rides, crafts, music and more geared towards families with children ages 10 and younger. The Easter Bunny will arrive at 11:15 a.m. and will be available all morning to meet with the children. Food and vendor items will be available for purchase in the park. Call Emily Upton at 514-7267.
  • A VCW live wrestling event will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 400 Bank St. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the matches will begin at 7:30 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Salvation Army, with $20 tickets for all seats. Admission is free for kids ages 5 and younger. Visit vcw-wrestling.com for tickets.

This is only a small sampling of the events happening this Saturday. We encourage you to view our events calendar on page 3 of this paper or check online at www.suffolknewsherald.com to see even more events, like health fairs, escape rooms, church bazaars and more.
