Please fill out our reader survey

I have a dirty little secret: I love filling out surveys. OK, that’s not that dirty; it’s just weird.

I can’t tell you why. I really enjoy when I get those consumer surveys in the mail. I always answer surveys I see online, if the topic applies to me. I even got really excited about filling out the U.S. Census form back in 2010, the first Census year I was living on my own. If I recall correctly, I even begged my parents to let me fill out the one in 2000, as well. I’m already looking forward to next year’s Census. My husband will tell you it’s only one of the many quirks I have.

Right about now, I’m hoping many of you readers love filling out surveys, too. That’s because the Suffolk News-Herald is now embarking on a reader survey.

This is the first one we’ve done in recent memory. I can’t remember another, and I’ve been working here for 12 and a half years. So I am excited to see how this turns out.

The survey asks questions about how often you read the Suffolk News-Herald, which features you read the most and what you think we do best. It also asks about the areas where you think we could improve, and things you’d like to see in the paper that you don’t think we do enough.

Filling out the survey will take less than 10 minutes of your time, and you might win a $50 gift card! That’s not too shabby a payday for 10 minutes of work.

But seriously, I truly hope you will take the time to do the survey and give your honest opinions. In the newspaper world, we tend to hear from our readers only when something is wrong — perhaps when we misspelled someone’s name, got the date wrong or forgot to run a calendar announcement.

But we’d like to ask you to think a little more about the important things on which we could improve, and also ask for your feedback on the things you think we do well.

Your survey responses will help us fulfill our mission to serve our community with integrity, to report the news that affects the people of our community fairly and accurately, to serve as a forum where public opinion is valued and shared and to take an active role in helping Suffolk grow and prosper.

And it might win you a bit of extra cash, too. The survey is located at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SNHsurvey.

If you have any questions or comments about the survey or about the Suffolk News-Herald in general, I hope you will email me at tracy.agnew@suffolknewsherald.com. Thank you for being a reader of the Suffolk News-Herald.
