Former King’s Fork High School standout Sugar Rodgers has been traded from the New York Liberty to the Las Vegas Aces in a four-team deal.

Rodgers, a Suffolk native, spent five seasons with the Liberty before Thursday’s trade, and it is the second time she has been traded since playing in the WNBA. In 2014, Rodgers was traded from the Minnesota Lynx to the Liberty.

Aces general manager Dan Padover said Rodgers’ ability from long-range will allow the Aces to spread the floor, as she shoots 36 percent from beyond the arc.

“We are excited about the addition of Sugar Rodgers to the Aces organization,” Padover said. “We were looking to add another veteran this offseason who can help this young core move forward, and Sugar fits that mold to a T.”

Padover said she is also a sound defensive player who is familiar with the Aces’ system and has a high basketball IQ.

During her time with the Liberty, Rodgers was a WNBA All-Star in 2017, and won the WNBA’s Sixth Woman of the Year that same season.

Rodgers was a staple at King’s Fork, as she is among the school’s all-time leading scorers for boys and girls. She was a McDonald’s All-American before going on to Georgetown University to play basketball and being drafted by the Lynx in 2013.
