Former Nansemond River High School standout Morgan Lowers has reached 200 career hits for the Winthrop University softball team.

A couple of weeks ago, Lowers got the chance to come back to Hampton Roads to play in front of friends and family when Winthrop took on Hampton University. At that time, she had 191 career hits and was 10th all-time.

Over this weekend, Lowers reached 200 hits to move up to eighth all-time on the list and is the eighth player in the program’s history to achieve that accolade.

Lowers currently leads the team with 55 hits and 33 runs. She also has three home runs on the season. The former Lady Warrior mentioned that her goal was to try to climb the rankings on the career-hits list. With five regular season games left, she has a chance to continue climbing. When Lowers found out she had reached the top 10, she was excited.

“It’s all amazing and humbling,” she said. “I had no idea I was even close to the top. I’m hoping to get to No. 1, but I’m just taking it one game at a time and one swing at a time.”
