Road closure extended on 460

A complete road closure on Pruden Boulevard has been extended, but the project as a whole should be finished sooner as a result, according to a city press release.

The closure in the 2500 block of Pruden Boulevard began on Feb. 11. The work was needed to improve drainage and alleviate roadway flooding during extreme weather, the city stated at the time.

Initially, a complete closure was anticipated until May 11, followed by a partial opening of one lane in each direction for an additional six weeks — making the project as a whole last until roughly June 22.

However, the contractor has requested to extend the complete closure an additional 20 days, until May 31. The need for the partial closure will be eliminated, meaning the road will be completely reopened sooner.

“This extension is required due to unforeseen utility issues that have arisen as well as the extremely wet weather we’ve experienced and to allow a safer operating environment for contractors working on the roadway,” the press release stated.
