Suffolk Public Library will offer a double-header of fan-friendly activities for both Star Wars Day and Free Comic Book Day this Saturday.

Both events will be held at the North Suffolk Library and Morgan Memorial Library branches, and both are free and open to the public with no registration required.

For Star Wars Day — which is observed annually on May 4 — both branches will host screenings of “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” at 11 a.m. and “Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi” at 1:30 p.m. Both movies are rated PG-13.

Popcorn and other refreshments will be provided. Costumes are not required, but fans are welcome to wear their best cosplay outfits while they enjoy their favorite franchise.

“It’s like a movie theater experience,” said April Watkins, early childhood services senior librarian.

Library visitors will also celebrate Free Comic Book Day at both branches from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each participant will receive two free comic books of their choosing while supplies last, all provided by Atlantis Games and Comics in Portsmouth.

Both library branches will also have a $50 raffle prize drawing — also provided by Atlantis Games and Comics. Each participant will receive a raffle ticket, and there will be one winner per branch. Raffle winners will be notified sometime next week.

Comics will also be available from the Library2Go Mobile that will be at the Suffolk Farmers Market this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., located at the Suffolk Visitor Center, 524 N. Main St.

“We have not participated in Free Comic Book Day in years, so this is a great way to continue our fandom program and bring in a local vendor,” Watkins said.

Free Comic Book Day activities will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. while the Star Wars Day Movie Marathon will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road, and Morgan Memorial Library, 443 W. Washington St.

Library memberships are not required for the free events. If someone is in need of accommodations in order to participate, call 514-7323 and ask to speak with a manager.
