Most people think of a farmers’ market as someplace you can buy locally grown fruits and vegetables directly from the farmers that grow them here in our region.

Suffolk’s farmers’ market is definitely that, but you’re sure to find more than just fruits and vegetables there, too.

Things like baked goods, meat and eggs, jellies and jams, honey and pickles are also among the locally grown, made and crafted foods available at the Suffolk Farmers’ Market, which open this Saturday for its 14th season.

It’s not just food, either. The market includes lots of vendors selling artisan crafts of many shapes and sizes. You’re bound to find a nice gift for an upcoming wedding or birthday there, or maybe just something you want for yourself.

Not much of a shopper? You’ll definitely still want to come by the market for the many activities and entertainment available there throughout the summer and fall. Petting zoos, pop-up library, bounce houses, live music, book signings by local authors and more will be available at the market on select days, usually the first Saturday of the month, with other themed days scheduled.

Admission to the market and all of its activities is always free, so we’re sure you can find a Saturday to your liking to visit this year.

The market will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting this Saturday and lasting all the way until Nov. 23. It all happens at the pavilion behind the Suffolk Visitor Center, 524 N. Main St.
