A popular ice cream shop in Carrollton loves to offer creative flavors in a wild-west atmosphere.

ConeSlingers opened last August and is looking forward to its first full summer serving up a wide variety of cool treats.

“I just love to eat food, and I wanted some good ice cream,” owner Reeva Luecke said about why she opened up the shop. She also owns O’doodleDoo’s Donuts farther down Route 17 in Suffolk. “I had been thinking about it for five years, and then I went crazy and did it,” she said.

ConeSlingers makes all of its ice cream on site and also has creative cone flavors like orange and the popular chocolate and coconut flavor.

The shop has about 26 to 30 flavors, and about 20 to 25 of them are available at any given time. New flavors are always being created based on the season, what people ask for or special events.

“We find some flavors we have to have all the time,” Luecke said. “If they don’t sell well, we just cross it off the list.”

Luecke said she likes to have fun with the flavors, and the customers appreciate it. The flavors are a variety of the traditional and wild, sweet and fruity and savory and nutty. Some of the more unusual flavors include cherry Coke and whiskey and bee pollen lavender.

“We try to have some options that are creative they can’t get anywhere else,” she said.

In addition to traditional ice cream cones, customers can get floats, shakes, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cakes and pies.

The atmosphere resembles something straight out of a Western movie, complete with an old piano. Most of the wood came off of her dad’s farm in Coshocton, Ohio, and her dad and husband worked on all of the décor.

“When you have a small business, you don’t have lots of money to put stuff together,” she said.

The ice cream shop is located at 15141 Carrollton Blvd.  It’s open from noon to 10 p.m. May through August. Call 745-8040.
