Fire extinguished on Nansemond Parkway

Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a brush fire in the 4800 block of Nansemond Parkway early Wednesday morning.
According to the press release, emergency communications was contacted by several citizens regarding the fire in the grassy median at 11:06 a.m.
The first units arrived on the scene at 11:14 a.m. Firefighters located a moderate grass fire that they were able to quickly extinguish, according to Captain Steven Johnson in the press release. It was determined that the fire was caused by a tractor that was cutting grass in the area.
The fire was called under control at 11:20 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Responding units included Engines Five and 10, Brush One and Battalion Two. Suffolk Police provided traffic control when the roadway in the immediate area was closed in both directions during the incident response.
In the press release, Suffolk Fire and Rescue reminded citizens to exercise extreme fire safety during this severe heat and dry weather throughout southeastern Virginia.
