A Suffolk man facing a second degree murder charge in connection to a fatal downtown shooting in February has been arrested on additional charges.

Marquay Antonio White, 24, who was arrested March 1 in connection to the incident, was arrested again Wednesday and charged with first degree murder, the use of a firearm in commission of a felony — first offense and shoot, stab, cut or wound, according to a city news release and online court records.

White, who was indicted Tuesday by a grand jury on the three additional charges, is being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail, the release states.

The incident took place Feb. 26 at the Happy Shopper location in the 600 block of East Washington Street. Leondrae Shaqil Johnson, 25, of Suffolk, died from his injuries, and another man, Antonio Lamon Jefferson, 24, of Suffolk, was hospitalized for gunshot wounds, according to a city news release.

Jefferson was arrested earlier this month on charges of discharging a firearm or missile in/at an occupied building, as well as destruction of property related to a vehicle that was damaged by gunfire in the incident, according to a city press release.

The investigation is ongoing, the release states.
