Nutty scavenger hunt set for Saturday

Published 9:37 pm Monday, June 10, 2019

Families can get out of the house this Saturday to solve clues and search for elusive peanuts throughout the city of Suffolk.

Suffolk Public Library will host the fourth annual Amazing Peanut Chase on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This city-wide, all-ages scavenger hunt is free and open to the public.

Teams will meet at Chuckatuck Library, 5881 Godwin Blvd., from 11 to 11:30 a.m. to pick up their packets, which will contain clues and other fun items. Solving these clues will point the teams toward different locations throughout the city.

Each of these locations will have a peanut card for the teams to collect. Teams will need to collect as many as they can and return to Chuckatuck Library by 2:30 p.m.

Every card will be a team entry into a prize drawing. The library will also partner with Keep Suffolk Beautiful to provide teams with litter pickup kits for the day.

“If they bring back a bag of garbage that they picked up along the way, then they’ll get a special entry for a gift basket (that’s specifically) for garbage picker-uppers,” Suffolk Public Library Adult Program Services Coordinator Ashley Reed.

There will also be pizza and games available at Chuckatuck Library after the teams have finished their puzzling tour of Suffolk.

“It’s a great opportunity for families to spend some time together solving clues, visiting (different) parts of their city … and exploring new (places) together,” Reed said.

Registration is recommended but not required. Search for “Amazing Peanut Chase: City-wide Scavenger Hunt” on Facebook for more information.
