The Suffolk Art League has launched a photo contest to find 12 pictures taken locally to be featured in a 2020 calendar showcasing the beauty and personality of Suffolk.

This calendar contest is open to photographers of all skill levels, and each photograph chosen for inclusion will win a $50 prize. Photo entries must be submitted digitally to suffolkartleague@verizon.net no later than Aug. 24.

“Suffolk has so many beautiful spaces and exciting events including waterways to fields, parks, and even historic Downtown,” Suffolk Art League Executive Director Linda Bunch stated in the press release. “Events like the Nansemond Indian powwow, Peanut Fest, and parades offer wonderful photographic opportunities. I am excited to see the entries.”

All photographs must have been taken in the city of Suffolk within the past three years, and photographers may submit up to three photographs in landscape orientation for consideration. A panel of judges representing the Suffolk Art League, Suffolk Art Gallery and Suffolk Tourism will select the final images for the 2020 calendar.

Each photo must be in digital format between 8 and 20 megapixels (minimum 2550 x 3300 pixels), high resolution (300 dpi) and in JPEG, JPG or GIF format. The photos may be in color or black and white.

Photographs of Suffolk parks, events, trails, architecture, athletic facilities, public spaces and waterways are encouraged, and the images may represent different seasons.

According to Suffolk Tourism Development Manager Theresa Earles, this contest is a wonderful opportunity for individuals and families to venture throughout Suffolk on the hunt for that special “calendar-worthy shot.”

“We hope to encourage people to discover all of the beauty Suffolk has to offer,” Earles stated.
